The refurbishment of this London school was part of the Building Schools for the Future programme. The school had been developed in a haphazard fashion over many years, resulting in an incoherent and confusing campus, so the brief was to rationalise the way the school was organised. The new campus masterplan proposed the demolition of a number of existing buildings, and the construction of a new technology department, sports hall and dance department. The new facilities were developed around a central landscaped open space which became the heart of the re-designed campus. The resulting scheme was shortlisted for SCALA building of the year.
