Client: Crown House Technologies Ltd
Value: £3.7m
Programme: 18 months

This state-of-the-art new facility replaced the existing antiquated hospital buildings of Pembury and Kent & Sussex hospitals. The new hospital is built into a steeply sloping hill and squeezed between the rock line and a restricted height level. The scale of the 66,000 sq m building dictated that it be split into four structures of varying heights, with three storeys at the top of the hill and seven at the bottom. Retaining walls of up to 11m run along the full face of the building. E&S Heating and Ventilation Ltd were responsible for providing all of the specialist ventilation to operating theatres, treatment rooms and other support areas. This was the first hospital in the country to offer single bedroomed wards with ensuite facilities, providing a high degree of attendant care for patients.
